Today is Your Day to Beat Hepatitis C
It has only been a few years ago that Hepatitis C Treatment had a low success rates. Today there are so many options for treating, and more are being tested daily. The word CURE has been used to describe a Sustained Viral Response (SVR), meaning that it is NOT in remission. It is GONE! There is very little likelihood of it ever recurring once a patient reaches SVR. I just had a 1 year SVR anniversary! It was only two years ago, I was not even able to teach full time. This spring I am helping a group of seniors embark on their life’s journey. Our story of Hepatitis C is just being told.
My granddaughter, who is also my itunes DJ, played a song in the car this week while heading to watch the junior and senior girls face off at the Powder Puff Football game. She played it for me many times during the last 3 years. This particular one had a lot of memories for us and is a HUGE reminder of how far I had come.
When I was on Hepatitis C treatment, I had several songs that I used as an alarm for Telaprevir. Today is Your Day by Shania Twain was the first one. It is one of those oh so cheesy and easy to learn tunes. My girls and I listened to this constantly so that the lyrics would be imprinted on my brain before Hepatitis C Treatment began. If you have checked out my youtube you know that my taste in music is all over the map. For some reason, the words to this song played to the beat of my heart that summer.
See, I believe in the power of words. I listen to the voice in my head. We all do. Sometimes that voice is bright and so hopeful that it feels like nothing can ever get me down again. Other times the same mind produces thoughts that are heavy and dark. My conversation with myself can be thick and sluggish like a distorted record and I can get weighed down quickly.
The simple message in this recording was just what I needed at the time. I knew that treatment was going to be hard for me. I had no idea how my body would react. The possibility of being a null responder was real. I was out of options. This was my big chance to survive.
I remember laying in bed listening to Shania’s voice lead in on my iphone alarm. “You’ve got what it takes. You can win.” As it played, my lead feet shuffle toward the kitchen to get some fat grams and Incivik. Bracing myself against nausea, I choked down the meds and food, feeling the burden of anxiety and depression. I let those lyrics chase the thoughts of pain and death away.
Let them? Yes. Life is full of good messages. We have to let them in. Meditate on them. Repeat them in our head. We have to use good words to drive out depression and anxiety.
You got what it takes you can win. Today is your day to begin.
Don’t give up here, don’t you quit. The moment is now, this is it.
Know that you can then you will get to the top of the hill.
Part of the fun is the climb.
You just gotta make up your mind that today is your day and nothing can stand in your way.
Today is your day. Everything’s goin’ your way.
When somebody throws sticks and stones, all they can break are your bones.
And life’s gonna kick you around, then kick you again when you’re down.
But today is your day and nothing can stand in your way.
Today is your day Everything’s goin’ your way.
Brush yourself off no regrets. This is as good as it gets.
Don’t expect more or less Just go out and give it your best.
Don’t these lyrics help you to make up your mind that Today is your Day, nothing can stand in your way?
I am a believer in good words. I really am a lover at heart. You have no idea how much love is delivered with the posts on the blog. If words could make you strong, heal your body, and mend your life – then consider it done. Luh Ya, Karen:)
