Being Doing and Relating: New Years Goals

As we step into a new year, it’s a perfect time to set intentions and map out goals that guide our journey toward growth, happiness, and fulfillment. This year, my goals revolve around three overarching themes: Being, Doing, and Relating. These categories serve as pillars for a balanced life, each representing a vital aspect of my daily existence. I hope it helps my liver loving friends too.

Being Doing and Relating: New Years Goals

I use the Keys2Success Planner on my iPad. It works so well with my pen and keyboard and allows me to have colorful and creative art along with my planning. It’s how I’ve started my day during the last year and it’s a Blast to use it in January especially. Hubby has the android version for his Samsung and loves it so much, he got it for me using IOS. 

Pardon my silliness in using acronyms. For Being I went with MEH or Moving, Eating, Hydrating. For Doing, it was MMM for Motivation, Minutes, and Money. Relating includes PLAY Playing, Listening, Alacrity, and Yellow for FUN. Join me on my little adventure and see if any of these relates to your New Year plans. 

Being: Moving, Eating, Hydrating 

The first pillar, Being, is about nurturing the body and mind. For me, this starts with moving. Movement isn’t just about structured exercise; it’s about staying active in everyday life. Whether it’s a morning walk, stretching during breaks, or dancing to my favorite song, movement keeps me energized and present.

My goal is to incorporate at least 30 minutes of intentional movement every day. We have 2 workout areas including a work out bench and of course, my yoga mat. But dancing happens in every room. 

Next comes eating. This year, I aim to approach food with mindfulness, focusing on nourishing my body rather than simply satisfying cravings. My plan includes meal prepping, experimenting with liver loving recipes, and maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Lastly, there’s hydrating. Proper hydration often gets overlooked, but it’s essential for physical and mental well-being. My target is to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, starting each morning with a glass to kickstart my metabolism. We use Reverse Osmosis to purify our water and it tastes so good, that it’s easy to sip all day. 

Doing: Motivation, Minutes of Time, Money

The Doing pillar centers on productivity and purpose. Motivation is another critical aspect. Staying motivated requires a clear vision of WHY I’m pursuing my goals. To maintain my drive, I’ll break larger objectives into manageable tasks, celebrate small wins, and surround myself with inspiring resources—books, podcasts, and supportive people.

Managing my minutes of time is equally important. After fighting cancer and seeing my life slowly slip away, I understand how to make Every Minute Count. Time is our most finite resource, and I’m committed to using it wisely. This means prioritizing tasks, reducing time-wasting activities, and creating daily schedules that allow me to balance work, rest, and play. A key practice will be reflecting on how I spend my time each week to ensure alignment with my values.

Money is a key focus as I strive for financial health and independence. This includes continuing to put $ into teachers retirement, writing, speaking, and making extra cash there. I also enjoy creating a realistic budget, tracking expenses, and setting aside savings each month. Part of my personal development is understanding how to help money grow. After having medical bills, I understand the importance of being prepared. 

Relating: Playing, Listening, Alacrity, Yellow 

The final pillar, Relating, focuses on connections and joy. Playing reminds me to embrace fun and spontaneity, whether through games, hobbies, or exploring new activities. Play isn’t just for kids—it’s a vital way to de-stress and connect with others.

Listening is about deepening relationships by being fully present. This year, I’ll practice active listening—not just hearing, but truly understanding and empathizing with others. It’s a simple but transformative way to nurture meaningful connections.

Alacrity, or cheerful readiness, is my goal for approaching life with enthusiasm. If you’ve read on here at all, you know I’m a lover and a fighter. Whether it’s tackling a new project or helping a friend, I want to show up with a positive attitude and an open heart.

Finally, there’s yellow fun, a phrase I use to describe moments of pure, radiant joy. It’s about seeking out activities and experiences that make me feel alive, like watching the sunrise, laughing with loved ones, or creating something beautiful. These moments infuse my life with color and light.

Being Doing and Relating: New Years Goals

By focusing on Being, Doing, and Relating, I hope to create a year filled with growth, purpose, and connection. These goals are not just resolutions—they’re commitments to living fully and intentionally, one step at a time.
